Wine places

As Wikipedia said: Mount Etna is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and is in an almost constant state of activity. The fertile volcanic soils support extensive agriculture, with vineyards and orchards spread across the lower slopes of the mountain and the broad Plain of Catania to the south. Due to its history of recent activity and nearby population, Mount Etna has been designated a Decade Volcano by the United Nations.

Obviously we will pay in the article a particular attention to the “fertile volcanic soil” that gives to the wine made in this area several interesting characteristics.

In the area cultivated and native wines and international varieties, so besides excellent local wine, we also have excellent Syrah, Cabernet and so on…

Anyway in the next days I will write some articles paying a particular attention to the places I visited and the native wines I found on my way.

The master of the area, in my opinion is the red Nerello Mascalese, from which, together with the Nerello Cappuccio, came out the best red wines of the area. Anyway keep following the blog for some interesting news about Sicilian wine…..

Hi There, I have just discover a cool App for IPhone obviusly related to Wine. The app Cellar 2.0 , that you can find on app store following this
link on iTunes help you to manage your cellar, in particular you can :

  • - Search (based on any data) and sort (type, region, vintage, price, or rating)
  • - Wishlist and trash (hey, you can’t have your wine and drink it too).
  • - Backups, restores, and merges for added data safety.
  • - Share bottles via Email (and others ways, not fully supported yet, but tweet-tastic none-the-less).
  • -A bunch of new bottle styles, labels, and fields like “drink by”, and “pairing”, and support for blends, name and wine type.

You can have more info on the app here
http://cellar-app.com/index.html

In few words I love it.

You can also email your bottle to your friends that has the application. So let’s try send me your bottle at thewineinsider@gmail.com I’ll add your suggested cellar on the blog.

In the midst of the Chianti Rufina zone is the "Castle of Nipozzano" owned by Marchesi di Frescobaldi.

Frescobaldi it’s a name in the wine world, that I don’t think need to be introduced. I really hope that all of you will have the possibility to visit it, because it’s in a fantastic area in the country side of Tuscany, and, more important for us, there is a wine store inside!!! ;-) . Don’t go to late they close at 6:30 P.m, from 9 a.m. in the morning. Obviously do not expect to find other wines except to Frescobaldi’s wine, here we are in their home, but you’ll not find only wine from Rufina area, but the complete line of Frescobaldi in Italy. Do I have to add more? Probably a particular note goes on the aged wine you can find inside for which the price is honest. Don’t forgive to buy wine from the area, like the Montesodi and the Marmoreto that you can find here at a good price. Is it possible to visit the Castle? Let’s say no, or anyway seems to be a bit complicate.
